Censored or Savage, Hip Hop Finds a Way In
Hey folks, this is Dante here, posting my first blog. So, I will be posting about my take on things that are new in Ge-erdy Verse’s categories. So let’s begin.
What makes hip hop and rap songs truly enjoyable—especially the ones we turn to when we’re feeling low or gearing up for a road trip—isn’t just one thing. It’s a combination of several powerful elements that come together to create a unique vibe and energy.

First and foremost, the beats play a massive role. Whether it’s a heavy bassline, catchy drum patterns, or melodic samples, the production often sets the entire tone of the track. Good beats can instantly lift your mood, make you nod your head, shake your legs to the beats, or get you hyped up for the day ahead.
Then there’s the flow of the music—how the artist rides the beat with their rhythm and cadence. A smooth or energetic flow can be incredibly captivating, making the lyrics feel more alive. It’s not just about what’s being said but how it’s being delivered. The rhythm becomes part of the message. It carries out on how we feel when the song is played.

Relatability is another big factor. Songs are not just about beats and a few words, it’s a story that lets the artists express themselves and connect to their fans and audience. Many hip hop and rap songs tell stories—stories of struggle, ambition, pain, triumph, or just day-to-day life. When a listener connects with those lyrics on a personal level, it creates a powerful emotional bond. It’s comforting to hear someone put into words what you’re feeling or going through.
And yes, for some people, the use of curse words adds to the rawness and authenticity. It’s not about being vulgar for the sake of it but rather about expressing strong emotions in a raw and unfiltered way. It can make the message more real to some people.
While rap battles have their own entertainment value—where artists mock opponents with clever bars and punchlines—the songs we play during emotional moments or adventures serve a different purpose. They either help us process feelings, boost our confidence, or simply set the mood.
What makes these songs fun and memorable is their versatility—they can be deep and introspective or wild and hype. That emotional range, combined with skillful production and storytelling, is what keeps us coming back to them again and again.
But it’s also worth noting that not every great hip hop or rap song relies on curse words or dissing others to make an impact. There are artists out there who manage to keep things clean, yet still deliver powerful, relatable messages—often layered over cool, well-produced beats that hit just as hard.
Take artists like NF or Kode, for example. They’ve proven that you can speak on real issues—mental health, self-doubt, life struggles, ambition—without resorting to profanity or mockery. NF, especially, is known for pouring his emotions into his lyrics, tackling deep and often heavy themes, all while maintaining a raw honesty that resonates with listeners. His music hits differently because it’s vulnerable yet strong, and his delivery feels intense even without explicit content.

Artists like Kode follow a similar path, crafting tracks that are clean but not sanitized—meaning they still pack emotional weight and energy. These kinds of artists show that you can be lyrical, relatable, and even inspirational without crossing certain lines, and in doing so, they open the genre up to a wider audience.
It’s refreshing to see this diversity within the genre—where some tracks are made to hype you up, others help you heal, and some simply make you think. Whether it’s the message, the melody, or the mood, there’s something in hip hop for everyone. And that’s what makes it such a powerful and enduring form of music.
In the end, hip hop and rap are more than just genres—they’re forms of expression that adapt to every mood, every story, and every listener. Whether you’re looking for something to lift your spirits, soundtrack your travels, or speak to the struggles you can’t always put into words, there’s a track out there that fits the moment. From hard-hitting beats to introspective bars, from gritty realism to clean and meaningful lyrics, the diversity within the culture is what keeps it alive and evolving. That’s the true beauty of hip hop—it doesn’t just entertain, it connects with people no matter the situation they are in.
